Volunteer to paint fallen hero
I received the following email:
I'm looking for volunteer portrait artists, to donate their talent to paint one fallen Heroe for the families of the 3 military units, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Sadly, this is an ongoing conflict and there really is no timetable for our gratitude. The First Cavalry Division has lost over 200 soldiers alone. I'm working with local govt. to see about paying for supplies and shipping from the artists to the families. Welcome to Operation Grateful Nation. Contact info is: Name = Rudy A. Calooy, Jr. Title = Vice President Company = Killeen Civic Art Guild Street1 = 1905 Wilshire Drive Street2 = City = Killeen State = TX Zip = 76543 Country = United States of America [US] DayPhone = 254-699-2568 EvePhone = Email = [email protected] If someone decides to do this, please let us know. |
Dear Cynthia,
Is it open to locals only, or international artists are welcome too? I would be interested in a project like this. |
I emailed him as he is in my state and he is trying to arrange it so that there is $100 available to each artist to cover the cost of shipping and materials. If you are willing to do it with that amount Marcus, Im sure they'd be happy to have you participate.

This to me seems like a worthwhile cause and good idea. I would be happy to participate.
I have but a few questions. If my math is correct he is talking like 600 portraits and probably more. Am I correct? Are all the families to receive a portrait? What happens if not all receive a portrait? 600 + portraits is a lot to ask for and still not enough to compensate a families loss. A $100 is a lot for some but for others mite not be enough to cover the costs. Is this but an idea to see if there is artist response? mischa |
Mischa, I dont think anyone here has the answers - you'll have to email the address Cynthia posted.
Here is the email I received...when I get the press release I can post it. Kim, It's wonderful to hear from you, and your interest in our new project. I'll be sending you a copy of my revised letter/press release, in my next e-mail to you. At present, I'm working with Fort Hood officials from the Family Support office, which will help us get our offer to the families. I will be speaking to out Mayor on March 7th, on the local City Channel, about Op. GN, and will seek local funding for the artists supply and painting shipping costs. Do you think $100.00 would cover supplies and shipping for one portrait ? On a personal note, I grew up around Corpus and Flour Bluff, as I am the son of an Army Aviation(Ret.) Dad, attached to the Naval Base their, back in the late 60's. All the Best, Rudy C. |
I'm interested in participating, and I have e-mailed Rudy.

Me too.

Please direct all questions to the person listed in my original post . I don't personally have any further information.

It does sound like a worthy cause to work for. But as Mischa highlighted very important points about the matter, i reckon we should write to him personally and see how he feels about it.
But above all, i'm interested to participate in this commemorative project  |
I always participate in projects like this in Brazil, so, I couldn't miss this one.
