Dear colleagues,
I was absent long time, and here I again at a forum with new work - a three person?s portrait. It would be desirable to learn your opinion about this picture. And else. Somebody knows, what competitions within the limits of a forum are?

I like it in general, but I think either the little girl's head on our left is too big and out of proportion, regarding her body, or we have a future Einstein here! :) :)

Everything else seems fine and pleasant to look at!

Andrey, this excellent work! I am not sure if my suggestions would help improve what you already have accomplished. Allow me to suggest but a few things. The clavicles on the woman are a touch sharp everywhere and even at this distance, I think, stand out to much.

Another though comes to mind and that is the distance of the figures and the wall behind them. I would think to push the wall back a touch. You have the wall than the distance of the recliner and then the figures. It seems to me that this distance is not expressed enough.

I somehow thought I already responded to this fine portrait of yours back in December, but apparently the response got lost in cyberspace (there were functional glitches in the Forum that week, as I recall). I'm sorry to keep you waiting so long, and will respond again.

This is a wonderful composition, the portraits are beautiful, and the colors are unified with all the pinks, reds and whites. The one thing that bothers me about this is your treatment of the background, which is for me, too flat and nebulous. I would like to sense some representation of depth behind your figure group, and something tangeable and descriptive of what the setting is.

A faint indication of wallpaper, or a window sill would add something, I think. Also a darker color would compliment the seated family better than the glowing gold you presently have.

I think your portrait has so much to offer the viewer, and with a few background adjustments it could be extraordinarily stunning.

Hi Andrey,

That's funny, I remember replying to this also--but here goes again.
The thing that appeals to me most about this portrait is the grouping of the figures and the way you have captured the love between the mother and her daughters. The composition is basically symmetrical--mother flanked on each side by her daughters--but you have arranged it with enough variations to make it interesting without being contrived.

One thing that stands out for me is the inconsistency in the modelling of the features. Right away, I think "If he can model the woman's features with that much accuracy and skill, why did he not take as much care with the daughters' features?" This also applies to the proportions of limbs to head, one head to another, and general measuring issues.

There is something unnatural about the way the woman's dress meets her chest. If you could post some closeups, it would be easier to see.

I agree with others about the background. The gold clashes and competes with the figures, and it also pushes forward, destroying the illusion of space. A cooler, darker color would work better, I think.

Once these issues are dealt with, the incredibly fine aspects of this portrait will sing out!
