Double Portrait Challenge
2 Attachment(s)
I delivered the double portrait commission on Sunday. The client was very happy with them and is excited to present to their father this weekend at his 50th birthday.
This was a very challenging experience in that I had only poor pics to work off of and very different lighting in the reference pics. So it took allot of planning out before execution of the drawings in order to get them to hang together looking cohesive. I am pretty happy with the result. I posed the sister earlier. Here is the brother and then a shot of the two together. Thanks for looking. |
If you had really poor quality pics to work with, then it's a fantastic job you're doing here! kudos!

Oh, Pat, the brother is so full of life and wonderfully rendered! They make an excellent pair, too. Congratulations on a resounding success.

Thanks, friends! You made my day. I thought the brother would be the easier of the two because the lighting in the pic was better, however the angle was difficult. And he has unusual features to work from, a) for a young adult there were prtty deep lines due to the smile which when handled wrong (as in the earlier attempts in my wastebasket) made him look older than he is and b) he has terrible teeth! I worked hard to downplay his teeth. My client loved the way I handled this feature and says I did not sacrifice likeness in doing so - Yeah!! I learned so much from his portrait about planes of the head and how light turns the object, etc. I can still find things in the portrait I wish I could tweak!!
