My 3 Dolls

Attached is a post of a portrait of three sisters, one is 5, one is 3 and one is 2. The photography was conducted at the Reynolda Gardens in Winston Salem, NC. We brought flowers, a basket and vials of soap for blowing bubbles. The mother was very helpful.

I took about 100 shots in about an hour's time and we captured about a dozen good photographic sources.

I didn't do a color study but I wish I had. I did keep one of the dresses for color reference.

The portrait measures 22"W x 32"H. I had to add some steps and extend the upper portions of the columns and the trees to fit the size. It is oil on linen.

Hi John -

I bet the mom is ecstatic! I like your composition of different rectangles that you worked in. Can you post any closeups?

Julie-

Thank you. This is a Christmas present so the mom won't see it for a while yet. Others have seen it and they are very happy.

I'm happy to post some closeups. The girls faces are rather small, each is only about 2-1/2" high. It was a challenge for me as I am used to painting larger faces.

Below are closeups of each girl.

Hi John, did you think about this when you painted?

Very nice work!

Hi, Ilaria,

If you're referring to their size, yes, I thought long and hard before committing but I usually enjoy a challenge.

If you are referring to the composition, most of it was suggested in the photograph. I played with the cropping to achieve my goal.

Thanks for your kind words. I feel neglectful to the website as I have been rarely active due to my schedule. I've been lucky to be busy but now I see a lull coming up unless an interested prospect decides to go through with a portrait, hopefully to start before Christmas.

Time to start some marketing and selling again.
