I'm probably way out of my depth in this section, but there isn't a "Finished paintings that still need critiquing" section. So here I am. :sunnysmil She says she's done and that I'm to let go and move on. I know better than to argue with faith.

Okay, this is another shot. If it still looks mucky, imagine the painting with nicer, cleaner colours, please.

I just saw this and realized you've had it posted for a while! Sorry for the delayed response. I just want to tell you how impressed I am with the great strides you have made with value changes, brushwork, color--every aspect of painting--since I first saw your work, and it wasn't too long ago since I joined the forum in the spring. I really admire your persistence and hard work, and I'm really seeing a big change in a short time. In a certain way it seems that you have used this lovely girl as a catalyst for change, or maybe your inspiration for working through problems. So I guess I'm saying that this portrait embodies all the above.

I would agree with everything Alexandra said about your work. You really have grown a lot in a very short time. I particularly like the hands in this painting.

(Not sure how a whole week went by before I noticed this post but I guess this is just an example for others that sometimes getting no comments on a piece only means it slipped under people's radar somehow. Some artists erroneously infer that no respopnses means something bad about the work they have posted for critique. Often it just means that it got overlooked and superseded by later posts by other artists. I'm glad this popped up to the top again with Alexandra's post.)

I'm not sure if I've replied to this one yet, but I agree with what others have said. This is a beautiful portrait, a lovely pose, and I do see a great difference in the skin tones.

This is really beautiful. I really like the expressive feel of the hands. I'm also really jealous that you have such a beautiful model "built in" so to speak.

From your comment, it seems you would also like some helpful comments. This is so nicely done, critiquing is a little hard. However, if I am allowed to be really really picky, I would say that the highlight in her eyes should be of lower value. Her eyes are in the shadow area, so having the highlight so white is a little startling to me.

All that aside, Janet, you have made great strides is your painting. It has been fun to watch the progress.

Awwww you guys! I really did like this when I finished it and felt so positive about it... The photos are awful for colour and I wondered if it was my backyard (where I take my shots) - it's heavily wooded and lately the colours have been a bit crazy (it's been a lovely fall - lots of orange and red), but after a few days I really didn't want to bring it up to the top of the heap by trying another pic. So thanks again. The gosh awful truth is that no way could I have come so far as a painter in the last number of months without this forum and the wealth of knowledge so generously shared. It will take some time before I can give back as far as sensible critiques go, but I look forward to it.

PS. Yes, this girl has been a bit of a muse for me. I hope she will continue to be (ie I hope my son doesn't mess it up for us both by driving her away).
