Outside of New Orleans

Wow! I actually made it here. What an honor! My name is Nichole, and I'm from a little town outside of New Orleans. That's right: New Orleans. I'm a Katrina survivor! But we weren't overly affected as much as they were.

I've been painting portraits for about 5 years now, and I've seen where I've improved. Its a learning process. Alot of that counts from lurking here at the forum and checking out the fabulous artists at SOG.

I paint in acrylics and was thinking about attending a fine arts school in New Orleans to learn how to paint portraits with oils. Portraits in oils seem to be what's expected from a portrait artist. I've accepted commissions before, and thanks to the resources found here I was planning to market myself more fully. But now that Katrina happened, those ideas flew right out the window. I'll have to start researching other places and making other plans. That's life!

Hi Nichole and Welcome!
I joined the forum 2 years ago (summer of 2003) and was painting in acrylics then. By Christmas-time had switched to oils and can't imagine going back.

Regardless of medium, good luck to you! and looking forward to seeing some of your work! :)

Thank you Mary Smith, Mary Reilly and Terri Ficenec for the warm welcome! I know I'm going to enjoy it here and learn a lot.

Well, I'm finally able to show a little of what I do. This is an 11x14 painting I did from a photograph. I was so nervous about taking this project on because it was my first portrait commission in 3 years. My style had changed so much since then. I was worried about the client's reaction. It turned out that she loved it so much she decided to commission another of herself. I'm glad she liked it. I wish any future clients that I have would be like that. ;)
