Hello!

I recently joined the forum, but have been reading through all of the threads and checking out everyone's website for a couple of months. In 2003, I moved to the Kansas City area after getting my Associates in Art in my hometown of Syracuse, NY. Since we settled into our house, I have been focusing on improving my work and learning as much as possible. I think I have progressed more at home than I did while in college! But, I still have a long, long way to go.

I have always been drawn to the face and the figure (no pun intended) and my recent work has been limited to these subjects. I slowly started to get commisions about a year ago and have since learned to think of myself as an artist because if I don't no one else will!

I haven't met many artists in the area, but hope that I might find others through this site that share interests in portrait/figure painting and more traditional methods.

Other than my art (which I focus on at least 5 days a week, 5 hours or more per day) I spend my day playing with and teaching my homeschooled son, 7, and encouraging my husband who is working and going back to school full time. We also have a guinea pig and a kitten recently showed up at our door and is slowly adopting us.

I hope to become a part of this online community, both learning and eventually helping others!

Work included:

Derek, Pastel on MiTientes, 14" x 12"

Amy in Teal, Oil on canvas, 36" x 24"

Hi Lacey--
I lived out in St. Louis for awhile, bet it's sweltering out there this time of year! (:bewildere it's sweltering even in the northeast)

Welcome!

Welcome to the forum. I'm very attracted to your painting of the woman with her back to us. Very good suggestion of anatomy underneath the drapery and very well carved out "space".
Hope to see more in the future...does the kitten know you have a guinea pig? (couldn't help but ask)

Welcome Lacey,

You have a very interesting and beautiful website. Hope to see some of your work here.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Terri: yes it is warm here, but it sure beats 20 below zero and 6 feet of snow like in Syracuse! My friends that live in Mass near the coast say that the ocean moderates the weather nicely, but no such luck in CNY. If I ever move back, it'll be near the ocean!

This kitten does not know about the guinea pig as the critter's cage is not near a window. I think the kitten does, however, know about the 2 suckers that live here.

I will be sure to post work soon, but I want to make sure that what I post for critique is in progress so that I can really put all of the advice to work. I am working on a preliminary painting of a head and shoulders that is in preparation for another painting of the whole figure, so maybe I will post that after I work on it tonight.

Cheers!
