This is now completed. It is 30x40 inches, oil on linen. I deliver it to the client tomorrow. It was a present for the gentleman's 60th birthday. Showed this to the moderators first - thanks to all of you for your insightful comments.

I have to say first my favorite part is how beautifully his sensation of his thoughtful and wise gaze is reiterated in the almost zen-like enviroment he's in. Very noble yet fresh.

Thanks Linda - quite an insightful comment, and exactly what I was aiming for in the interaction between the subject and the background. This was a hard commission. His features are quite distinctive and non-traditional. I wanted to capture his wisdom and warmth along with his "thousand-yard stare" (from a friend of his who saw the painting in progress).

Ditto to what Linda Nelson said, Michael. And may I add that you did a terrific job with that dark jacket. I've always thought that fabrics are one of your special strengths.

I agree with Linda, you are great with fabric. His right hand is also impressive with all the veining.
