National Portrait Gallery, London
If you can't get there in person here's the next best thing!
The website is distinct from the National Gallery's, and is also a great resource on lesser known artists. It houses over 10,000 portraits and is a real treat. The link is www.npg.org.uk If this doesn't get you through, as it can be temperemental, try www.npg.org.uk/live/index.asp. Enjoy! |

Hi, Patrick! Nice to see you posting again!
|
Patrick, thanks for this resource!
Found a couple of new Raeburns there, that I hadn't seen. |
Hi Linda! Hope all is well, and the commissions are many !!!
Tom. Raeburn was born just over twenty mile from where I live, and some of his work is split between the Edinburgh and Glasgow galleries. The Kelvingrove in Glasgow is undergoing renovation just now (for three years!), and his works have been moved, but you may be interested in this link. www.scotlandsource.com/henry-raeburn/home.htm If anyone knows where the "other" Raeburn's are, these guys would love to know! Patrick. |
Patrick,
Thanks a lot! Like most of us, Raeburn is a major light for me. Also, the Rev. Walker skating is a guilty pleasure of mine, just for the pure whimsy of it. Best--TE |

Hi Patrick,
I spent one whole day at the National Portrait Gallery in 1997. Thought I had died and gone to heaven!! I just spent some time on Sunday in front of Cleveland's one Raeburn. It is in the top five of my favorite portraits at the CMA! |
I just visited the Raeburn website you posted and did not see this painting (only the painting of Mrs. Hope). If you are interested in details or how to order a print, visit www.clemusart.com Raeburn is in gallery 225/6.

QUOTE] I just did. It was for free and worth every Penny.!! You could donate whatever pounds you wanted to let go though! The National Portrait Gallery is a Goldmine for people like us. When I visited the Gallery, positioned in the building complex of The National Gallery in London, I was focused on portraiture that had relevance to my own painting. I had limited time and may have missed some. I was amazed of the fine representation of Sargent portraits. They all stood out and seemed like they could have been painted yesterday. The only other portrait I remember is Watts |
