This is an 18x24 oil on canvas board.
I enjoyed painting this but after multiple alterations I decided to move on. The back lighting and close perspective were enticing (to me) but difficult to reproduce.

Garth, you succeeded in a difficult assignment very nicely. The expressions are great. I feel a more greyed backround might work better. The first thing that struck me was the intensity of the blue, but that might just be me. Nice work.

Hi Garth,

I would also do something more with the background. By reducing the light area with a curtain you will repeat the pattern of the figures. The big one partly shading the smaller.

I added a hint of what I mean.

Richard and Allan,
Thanks guys for your observations. The background was a problem for me. It's wrong. I wanted to darken it but I thought the rest of the lighting would be adversely effected (i.e. the faces and tiles). I'll work at it, but I think I'm done with this one.

Thanks again,
Jerome
