Peter Vandenberge, 30" x 36" oil on linen
1 Attachment(s)
This is the portrait of the sculptor Peter Vandenberge. He is Dutch, born in the island of Java, hence the background. The face and figure were painted from life in 7 sittings of about 2 hours each. The shirt and background were painted between sittings. I used elements of a Javanese batik to compose the background. Peter is grand grand grand...grandson of the Dutch painter Jan Steen.

This is a stunningly beautiful iconic portrait! I hope you are about to post closeups of every corner and detail for us to study, admire, and learn from. Kudos to you for another arresting portrait! Garth |

Deladier! So nice to see you!
I love this painting, Its color is luxurious, and your hand has given this piece a great deal of movement. Congratulations, very lovely. PS And beautiful edge management. |
Not really sure what to say other than "wow".

Hi Deladier,
I always love to see your work and I admire those direct strokes. You must have a sign over your easel: "No Noodling Around!" I really lilke the flamboyant drama of this painting and (as always) I wonder how you get these confident long brushstrokes. Do you use a medium? |
Hi, Linda. Hi, Chris. Hi, Garth. How are you? No medium. Just a little walnut oil. I am trying to use less and less of it. It seems that the more you mix in the palette, the harder it is...
