Hello from Texas.

Hello, my name is Wilma Hill.

I have no formal art background in regards to schools, only one portrait workshop in pastels back in the late 1960

Mike McCarty 01-25-2005 11:23 PM

Welcome Wilma.

That is one fine graphite drawing.

I'm familiar with the vicinity of Pointblank, Texas. My fathers family was from Crockett, just a few miles to the north, and I have fished all around lake Livingston. As a boy my father used to take me to the Huntsville prison rodeo, what an amazing experience that was.

Welcome Wilma!

I have no idea where Pointblank is - anywhere near Fort Davis? This state is just so big.

That's a beautiful drawing.

Hello Wilma.

Who needs a "formal art background?" This piece is gorgeous! And you're right, this Forum is incredible - the collective wisdom and experience of a lot of very talented and accomplished artists. Welcome.

"Pointblank" certainly has a Texas sound about it. Not far east from Austin Weird.

If we get a few more Texas members we should have a 'forum' get-together. How big IS that studio of yours Steven? ;)

Wilma Hill 01-26-2005 01:51 AM

What a wonderful warm response thank you all very much!

Mike I am familiar with Crockett have always wanted to go up there to the Old Time Fiddler's Reunion but so far haven't made it. The fish are still biting good in the Lake although I don't fish anymore. Have many Bass tournaments here.

Kimberly I am a transplanted Texan having been born and raised on a ranch in Montana so I get mixed up on different areas of Texas also but I believe Fort Davis is in West Texas, I am in East Texas about one hundred fifty miles from the Louisiana border and one hundred miles north of Houston.

David I never tire of learning something new. It's always a very happy experience.

Steven you are living in the part of Texas I just love, the Hill Country. It is so beautiful over there.

Again thank you all for your warm welcome and very generous and kind remarks.

Hello Wilma, my good friend! So great to see you on this esteemed forum. Just cozy yourself right up and sit a spell. You're gonna love it.

I know you're going to get uncomfortable for this request, but, I think you should post that colored pencil of the American native. It's one of my favorites of yours. (sidebar to the audience: you guys will love this piece. ) :sunnysmil

Your friend,
Geary

Oh my goodness Geary! All right I will do it. I must let these people know that I owe much of my success in understanding graphite to you. The sponge in my old brain doesn't soak up information as fast as it used to and you have been so patient in answering my questions, some of them I ask repeatedly but you always respond until I get it right.

This is a colored pencil drawing I did of an American Native this past year. I grew up and went to school with these people. My dad being a horse and cattle trader made many trips to the Blackfoot and Crow Reservations of which I got to go with him many times and we always made it a point to attend as many of their ceremonial events as possible. Those are treasured memories of my childhood and I can still see and hear the dances, beautiful costumes and beat of the drums to this very day.
