Rubens at the Met

There will be an exhibition "Peter Paul Rubens; Drawings" at the Met starting Jan 15.

I was planning to go on the 16th, but my daughter has a birthday party at 1pm. The museum will be open on the 17th as part of their holiday monday program, so I hope to be seeing it then. If anyone would like to meet up, let me know. Look for an unattractive man with a pretty wife and beautiful daughter.

Well, I FINALLY got the chance to see the Rubens show at the Met. It was a collection of drawings, some originals, studies, copies, and reworks over other artist's hands. It was incredible, only second to the da Vinci exhibit couple of years back.

It's a must see for anyone who loves drawing or would simply like to understand his methods and studies. His cross-hatching is beautiful, every line looks planned to fall in it's proper place. If I get a chance to see it again, I will bring a magnifying glass with me. Hopefully there will be less people to have more time to stand in front of the drawings without feeling selfish.
