New York City area framing - please advise
I have clients who are interested in creating their own elaborate Pre-Raphaelite style frame for my portrait I painted for them.
Can anybody direct me to a fine NYC or Long Island framer who could discuss options for them? I would also love to see some "dream frames" posted here, if you have any images on your cameras. |
Linda,
I dont know much about this company or their frames, but I do keep going back to look at them on occasion. They are very ornate, but I dont know if they are real wood or not. They seem fairly cheap. They are also in another country and their standard sizes vary from ours - which is why I havent tried one yet. Just thought I'd show you in case anyone likes them. If anyone does order one - let me know how they look. http://www.toucanart.com/service_101 |
There is a framing section in my resoures section of the site. There are several New York framers there. Munn is very good but I think they only sell wholesale and you'd have to order for them. The House of Heydenryk is a place John Sanden uses. In fact, I think they named a frame for him. Eli Wilner & Company and Julius Lowy Frame & Restoring and both good choices. All are listed on my Framers page.

Linda Troy Stafford makes a **** good frame... he's in New Hampshire but he can send to New York easy. http://www.staffordframes.com/ He does all Richard Schmid's frames and Jeremy Lipking's... frames a lot of the artists work at Arcadia Gallery in New York. Tony |
Kim, Cynthia and Tony, thanks for the information. Tony, you're right, those Stafford frames are amazing and I've bookmarked that site for the future. Was your painting at the PSA convention in one of those frames? It really showcased your lovely painting.

I noticed that you asked your question in January, but thought I'd respond incase you are still interested in a NY source for future reference. There is a company called Regence Picture Frames www.regencepictureframes.com . They are great to work with and will customize a frame specifically for the portrait if you send them a photo of the portrait. My clients have been pleased with their frames, and I have not been disappointed yet. The owner's name is "Bob" and you can ask for him if you want advice that the receptionist can't help with.
