Not the HO- HOO-man, but Merry Christmas anyway.
This is an attempt to study Rembrands technique. The original is only 6 X 5" and painted on copper. Mine is a little larger. I assume that he painted it alla prima with a little glazing, so that |
Very good study, Allan. Expression is identical (something not easy to do in a laughing face) and you certainly captured the essence of Rembrandt's handling. What support/ground did you use, also copper? I've never tried copper myself, wonder what it is like.

I tried to paint it on copper, but found it too slippery, so I could not get started. I guess it needs a sort of priming, or etching, to get a tooth. So I painted on a wooden board primed in light brown oil. My first concern was to find out how he build it up. If he used an under painting? But in this case I don |
