Very nice! I like the interaction between the two of them.

Dear Jane,

This painting is so clean and so well crafted, it is a joy for me to look at and study; one of those portrait posts I have to come back to again and again. My initial impression is Wow, and so is my second.

Please take this as a compliment; it recalls for me an obscure memory of a 1965 TV commercial advocating gas heat! In the commercial the house interior was furnished with everything in white, including the carpeting. A three-year-old girl ("Suzy") with a white satin dress, was running barefoot through the house with a white dog, rolling on the carpets and climbing the Swedish modern chairs. The dialogue ran something like: "See how white Suzy's dress is .... See how white the carpet is under Suzy's dress... See how white the chair is Suzy is sitting in .... See how white the laundry for Suzy is .... See how white......". - Well, you get the idea!

You have handled the subtleties of color reflections and transitions in the whites and everything else so masterfully. Kudos!

Garth

Jane, this is a lovely portrait, very well centered on the exchange of glances between the pair, and very cleanly painted.

I like very much the light/shadow contrast on the knees and, since the light source is very clearly placed, I think you might accentuate the shadows also on the shirt, maybe only with a glaze.

Many many compliments,

Ilaria

Michelle - Thanks so much - These two have a very sweet relationship.

Garth- Thanks. I loved your comment about the ad - especially since I actually hesitated to do this because it was so WHITE and it was almost a little too saccharine. But I had followed the two around for more than an hour shooting pics of them, and this really told their story. I appreciate your nice comments.

Ilaria, -Thanks very much. I am going to try what you suggest - it might make it a little richer. I appreciate the input.

Your work always strikes me as very fresh and direct and this one is no exception. You've caught that open, youthful boy and dog charm without being cloying or cutesy. I love the composition and the colors. Very nicely done, Jane!

thanks very much Linda

Jane,

This is a wonderfully painted piece, and I love the composition - just the tiniest bit away from symmetrical, but just so, giving both balance and dynamic movement to your two subjects.
