Gallery Exposure vs. Auction Donation?

It's my turn to hang three or four of my paintings on the Associate Artists' wall in the local gallery I helped to start, for the March-April exhibit. I had planned to put up three figurative paintings of my granddaughter, labelled NFS, and then offer the gicl

Why not both?

Hi Leslie,

How about doing both? It sounds like you already have the art for the Associate Artists' wall. And if you were thinking about donating a portrait to the silent auction anyway, then why not? It sounds like there would not be any out of pocket expenses for you for the gallery exhibit.

A plus for doing both would be just more exposure of your art in your community. And it would be a learning experience, it may help you decide how much you want to be involved with that gallery (since it sounds like you're not crazy about some of their policies).

Think of it as your own test market and next year you'll know more about where you want to put your time and energy (gallery, auction, both or something else altogether).

I've always wondered if an artist would donate an entire portrait at one of those silent auctions or just part of the fee? Which do you plan to do?

Good luck and let us know how it all goes,

Joan

Joan, one reason not to do both is that I would be donating one of the same gicl
