Rembrandt exhibit in Boston

In late October, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts will open an exhibit of Rembrandts, including 22 paintings and oil sketches, 35 drawings, and 160 etchings and copper etching plates. When my wife and I saw this mentioned on Sunday Morning, we immediately started talking about booking a trip. It's hard for either of us to get away from work, but we can add a day to a holiday weekend, and have a nice little trip to Boston.

It turns out that there are several worthwhile exhibits around, including one close to home, the Heart of Spain exhibit in Alexandria, LA is on our must-see list. There's also a large collection of 20th century works (hate them if you will, but I like much of it), in Houston later this year, and a large colletion from ancient Egyptian art in New Orleans.

I know many of you will go to the Rembrandt show, but if any of you Southerners know of major shows in our area, I'd like to know about them.

I was just at the BMFA a week ago and I saw the advertisement for this show. Being completely infatuated with Mr. Van Rijin, I'm ticked that I blew all my play money for the rest of this year on the Boston trip, and I won't be able to make another visit for Rembrandt. Bummer ...

On an upside, I saw my first live Velasquez ... so I can die now. :D

We fly out of New Orleans tomorrow morning. Can't wait.

Our Rembrandt tickets are for Monday. I have to pace myself during the weekend. If I walk too much, I'll be shot before I get there. I've already warned my wife to expect to spend the whole day in the museum.

By the way, anyone on the Gulf Coast: Go to the Heart of Spain exhibit in Alexandria, LA. There's not much time left.
