Introducing Brian Williams

Hello, everyone! I am honored to be a part of such an amazing website with so many great artists. My name is Brian Williams. My wife and I recently moved to Peoria, Arizona from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where I trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for two and a half years in their Certificate Program.

I have been starved for people to discuss art with since moving here and I am so excited to be able to once again have conversations about art.

I have been working in restaurants in the evenings, which allows me to paint during the day. I recently compiled a mini-portfolio with procedures and prices that I keep with me at the restaurant. I have been able to generate some portrait business this way. I am attaching a portrait that I recently completed in pencil, charcoal and pastel. It is called "Mikey" and is 10 inches by 8 inches.

I have many questions for the full-time professionals that I have been admiring on this forum!

Hi Brian,

And welcome to AZ, too - will be quite a climate shock for you.

I had that problem once - found that if I did a "preview" first, the path to the image on my computer disappeared when I submitted. Browse for the file again and hit "submit" without previewing it and see if that works.
Good luck!

Hi Brian, and welcome. Heidi and I have had the same experience, apparently. For some reason, you can't preview posts with images. Well, you can preview them, but it causes you to lose the image.

Just post it without the preview. Don't worry about the text part of the post. SOG allows you to edit posts at any time after they've been posted, so you don't really need to preview anyway.

Brian, your image is too large. You'll see the "maximum size" specs near the "Browse" or attachment window -- 400 (width) x 600 (height). A larger image simply won't (can't) attach.

Resize your image and try again. If that doesn't help, we'll go to Plan B. I'll start thinking of one.

Make sure, too, that your image has an acceptable file extension. They are: gif jpg txt zip jpeg xls (psd from Photoshop won't work -- resave such an image in another format.)

Brian, welcome to the Forum and to Arizona! Looking forward to seeing your work.

Best wishes,
Linda

Holy Cow Heidi!

I went to your site upon seeing your reply, and wow! The portrait of the girl on your home page is beautiful. I wish I would have taken more sculpture courses when I look at your work. Truly inspiring.

Hi Steven! Thanks for the information. My image is in Adobe Photoshop. I'm going to resize the image to 400 pixels by 300 pixels and save it in a .gif format. OK, here goes, gonna try it again.

Thanks again.

Hi Linda! Beautiful work. Was your George portrait Wyeth inspired? It's wonderful.
