Intro from Sculptor
 

What a fascinating site this is! I see that most of you are painters and I truly admire your talents and the hard work it has taken you to achieve such breathtaking results.

I've been a portrait sculptor since developing a passion for it while attending the Universty of Oregon back in 1978. I am currently living in Arizona and maintain a website at http://portrait-sculpture.com

I primarily work in stoneware clay and for those of you wanting to try your hand at this delightful medium, I am in the process of writing an ebook that will be available for download soon. I neglected to post the details for this sample in case anyone is interested. Typically, my ceramic portraits are about 80% life-size.

This tiny head above is a polymer mini portrait and is only 2 inches tall. Steady hands required..

Thank you all for your warm welcome and kind comments. I find your paintings fascinating as well.

I remember a comment from one of my first drawing instructors - he said I drew like a sculptor. To this day I really don't know what he meant by that, but I guess he knew what he was talking about. What you all do with pigment is beyond my comprehension as working in 3D comes so much more naturally to me. I think you've given me some insight with your comment, Marvin, about sculpting the head with pigment.

Maybe our worlds are not so different after all.

Oh Heidi, they are breathtaking and so fascinating. I have always wanted to try sculpting, I just never had a clue where to begin! Congratulations on wonderful work and I can't wait to see more.

I thought this might be the most appropriate place to post this photo since I posted its head here a while back when I first joined this wonderful site.

The little head does look a little strange all by itself and I finally got around to making the body for this miniature piece. This should explain why it has a scrunched chin. Haven't decided what type of finish to put on it yet..
