Pop Up Problem

Has anyone tried any of those pop up blockers? I'll pay for one, well worth it if they work. I've had to close 3 just to type these 2 sentences.

Pop-ups are a nuisance of the sort that spam is. Most hosts hate them as well, and request that visitors report them. I don't have interceptive software, nor the time to play that game, so I just email the ISP or the website administrator that I'm soon no longer in business with them, as long as I have to deal with pop-ups. Provide the URL of the offender or originating site, and let the money go to those who will accommodate those who pay. There are bright folks out there, and the fixes are already figured out. They're just waiting for the financial incentive. Give it to them.

Thanks Steven, I'll give it a shot.

I do think there is a reasonable use for pop-ups. For example, I've used them for a special announcement for ASOPA. But, it's not non-ASOPA advertising. I hate that too.

I was perhaps a little extreme in my earlier note, but I'd just had a bad flight through some websites that inundated me with pop-ups. I'm sure there are some useful purposes to which they can be put, but I haven't encountered those.

I'm not able to sleuth out all the details right now, but there is software that can block pop-ups. Play with www.Komando.com ,www.getprivatenow.com, and www.anonymizer.com , if you keep having trouble.

One last one, for now: http://www.panicware.com/popupstopper.html

If you have the time and interest, the www.komando.com site is chock full of info on this and hundreds of other computer tips and goodies.

I checked out a couple of those sites you mentioned and read a bit of one. They have you log onto their site every time you are on the computer and from there you are 'unseen' by the popups and spyware. It sounds ok, but I need to read more and see about losing all my bookmarks, free email, etc. It gives me more security than I need, I think. Thank you for the tips though! I just need to find a block of time to read & decide what to do (before I throw the computer out the window).
