Important! Get anti-virus software on your system
If you don't have it on your system, you need to get it. The email viruses have been running rampant the last 3 days. Even more important if you have DSL or cable.
Norton Anti-virus is better than McAfee, spend the money, keep it running actively in the background after installation and set it for automatic Live Updates so you get the latest virus definitions installed on a regular basis! Actually, I have Norton Internet Security which incluces the anti-virus and is better for DSL and cable users. Very important! |
PC-cillin
My preference is Trend Micro's PC-cillin.
http://www.antivirus.com/pc-cillin/ Our IT people use it to fix things that Norton let by! I think Trend beats 'em all. |
Thanks David. I'll check it out. I know that most new systems come with McAfee installed over Norton and have heard examples of cases where Norton caught things McAfee didn't.
My Norton has been catching a plethora of email viruses lately, so I guess it's certainly a lot better than nothing! :sunnysmil |
Trend PC-cillin!
It is nothing like Norton, which you have to upgrade at their site regularly in order to get the newest innoculations. This little wonder digitally detects the pattern of any virus, no matter what kind, and eradicates it! You don't have to have it running in the background taking up operating room in your tray or start up menu like Norton does. You don't have to disable it all the time either when installing a program, because it is smart!

I must admit that since I've installed the 2002 version of Norton Internet Security, I've had very annoying problems with Netscape 4.7 hanging. When this happens I have to shut down Netscape and either restart it or completely reboot.
When I called Symantec, they suggested I upgrade my Netscape to the newest version and claimed no one else was having this problem. However, the newest version of Netscape doesn't have all the features yet that 4.7 had and they are important mail features that I need. I've thought of switching to Outlook Express except most of the email viruses seem to target that because it has the most users. I have heard good things about Eudora mail, but no experience. I could switch my Netscape if I could find another suitable email program. However, maybe this other virus program is the simplest answer. Would I have to uninstall my Norton Internet Security beforehand? |
Norton
I had a host of trouble with Norton. Yes, you would want to dump it, as you would not even need it. But I have heard other bad things about Netscape as well. It wouldn't hurt to try switching AVs first, then deal with Netscape if you still have trouble. It is hard to leave a preferred Email manager, because you physically use it all the time. An AV, who cares?

Am not really a PC guru, but it looks like your Nort has a firewall utility, which you probably need for security on vable hook up. Maybe the PC-cillin and a different firewall would help you out, so you can use Outlook without an attack from the anti-virus.
