Hello, all.

I wish to first apologize for posting in the critique section of this site before first introducing myself. I was so excited at the prospect of being critiqued that I couldn't help myself.

I'm a 23 year old artist who cooks for a living. I am becoming very tired of cooking. I have known since I was a youngster that I had a bit of artistic talent, but until recently I have neglected it. In the past couple of months I have been fooling around with acrylic paints and within the last week I have picked up some pastels and ink with witch I plan to experiment.

Several of my friends agree that I should pursue a career in art and I'm somewhat obliged to believe them. Seeing that I have no formal training in this field nor anywhere near the depth of talent that I am finding on this wonderful Forum, I have begun to question that idea, but have been inspired to learn as much as I can. Anyhow, thank you all for having me as part of your Forum.

Elijah

I have attached the self-portrait here that I have asked you to critique in the acrylic forum. 20" x 16" acrylic.

Hi, Elijah.

From one former Orlando resident to a current one, hello. I love seeing all these different people from all over the world.

I think your self-portrait is really bold. It has been a while since I worked in acrylic. You might want to check out some of the threads on how value relates to composition, there are some really good ones, and I know this is something I struggle with. Best to you!
