Alex Tyng's Artist Magazine Article

Hey Alex, I just saw your feature article in the Artists Magazine's current issue. Wow! It looks great, so I wanted to congratulate you and bring the fact to everyone's attention. My big question is, why isn't one of your paintings on the cover? It would be if I were the editor. All the best!

Bob Botha 03-03-2009 01:48 AM

I also read the article today, well done, Alex! I agree with Marvin, one of your paintings should have been on the cover!

Thanks so much, Marvin and Bob! I'm very excited about it, and I'm glad it looks good! My copy hasn't arrived yet and I'm now thinking my subscription might have briefly lapsed before I renewed it , so I may have to wait for it to hit the newsstands. Patience isn't my strong suit. As for being on the cover--boy, that would have been nice, Too bad you two weren't making the editorial decisions.

Excellent news, Alex! I haven't got a copy yet, but will definitely go round to our local art store and pick up one asap!

Linda Brandon 03-08-2009 05:10 PM

Big congratulations, Alex! I am so proud of you. How about posting that link online for us? :)

Alexandra Tyng 03-08-2009 06:52 PM

Thanks Thomasin and Linda! It was a thrill to finally get the magazine and see how the article looked with all the images.

Here's the link that Linda is referring to. It's from the Artist's Magazine website's online features. It shows a step-by-step demo of The Harpist, which can also be found in the WIP section of the forum, in more detail

Congratulations Alex, this is a fine article about your working method.

I suspect that it will create a lot of respect when people understand the ammount of knowledge, skill and taste it takes to compose and produce such a great work of art.

The reference photos are just a tool and not half the painting.

Julie Deane 03-08-2009 07:54 PM

congratulations, Alex! I look forward to seeing the article.

Carlos Ygoa 03-09-2009 06:41 AM

Alex,
Let me chime in my (late) congratulations!!!! Wonderful article and such an educational step-by-step you have composed. So nice to see your work develop, as always.

Alexandra Tyng 03-09-2009 12:01 PM

Allan, Julie and Carlos--thank you all! That is a good point about reference photos and sketches being only a small (but necessary) part of the creation of a work of art. If my step-by-step demo hows this, that will be as much as I can hope for. All those pictures came from ones I saved while doing the WIP on this forum--I'm so glad I saved them.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

What a wonderful article featuring an even more wonderful artist! I loved the honesty of it as well as your beautiful paintings.

Patricia Joyce 03-09-2009 03:10 PM

It looks like quite a few of your friends from SOG read the article at the same time ... synchronicity!!

I loved the article, great big congratulations, you deserve this attention!!!!! And all the congratulatory energy flowing your way!

Alexandra Tyng 03-09-2009 06:03 PM

Thank you so much, Carol and Patty! Sometimes I am amazed when I think of how many more artist friends I have made since joining SOG. Believe me, I do feel and appreciate the positive energy!

'Tis a Gift

You're welcome, Alex. The atmosphere of genuine helpfulness that abounds on this forum makes it a truly great place to be. The generous gift of such expert advice freely given, coming from all over the world wide web, is certainly in evidence. What could be better than that?

Alexandra Tyng 03-10-2009 10:42 AM

You're right, Carol, it is a gift. And a great idea generated by Cynthia. This site is definitely not fluff--it's got a lot of substance.
