Hello from Brittany, France

I have been drawing portraits for as long as I can remember. I mostly work with soft pastels since 1990, when I first tried them in graphic arts school in Paris.

I hope to find the energy to try out new things in the lines of this forum.

You may find more and more of my work on my Flickr steam : http://www.flickr.com/photos/lesaint

Welcome Jean! May your time with us be a joy and our time with you a pleasure. You have an impressive collection of work and your appreciation for the craft is quite evident. So, find a chair and stay a while.

You get wonderful results from your pastel! I love the textures and colors. The sparkling lucidity of the eyes is startling!

Thank you all for your welcome,
It is such a pleasure to visit your websites, in addition to all there is to read in this forum.

@Claudemir Bonfim : "Seresteiros, 2006" has such good vibration, I see it as part of your Christ portrait series.

@Ilaria Rosselli Del Turco : Thank you so much for posting hi-res pictures of your paintings.
I relate to the way you paint with light rather than outlines. A magical way to paint, things and people seem to appear effortlessly under the brushstrokes.

Jean-Francois,

Welcome to the Forum! I'm looking forward to your participation here. Thanks for posting some of your work. I really enjoyed seeing the variety of textures, the rich colors, and your particular vision whih shows itself in the facial expressions and way you place people within the boundaries of the paper.

Thank you all for your warm welcome,

Once again it is awesome to view your websites, Thomasin Dewhurst has such intense, expressive portraits, Tom Edgerton's portrait are so refined and the backgrounds make you feel you are in the scene in front of the subject. (I love the Lynn Clark portrait).

Karine Monaco do you have a website ? I have only seen two of your fine portraits on this forum, I hope to see more.

Garth Herrick, thanks for introducing me to this forum, I had seen your your beautiful oil portraits after we "met" and I am thrilled by your new pastels, I hope you try other brands of pastels in addition to your Unison set !

Welcome,

Your pastels have such a storybook quality about them, but a storybook for grown-up children-quite lovely and evocative.

I love your use of color.

Chris Saper 07-11-2007 02:01 AM

I wish you such a fine welcome. I only wish my French was in any way currently competent:) Look forward to seeing you on line:)
