I don't know if the touch up counts to put it here but the model was so lovely I had to finish it.

Diane,

You are becoming quite an inspiration! Lovely!

Carlos Ygoa 03-21-2007 01:47 PM

Be prepared for a LONG LIST of replies to this post.

This is just beautiful.

Dianne Gardner 03-21-2007 04:48 PM

Gosh, thank you Carlos and Sharon. Cynthia said she was going to move this post to unveilings because it is more than just open studio but that was a couple of days ago.

I appreciate your comments.

Hi Diane,

I just now did move this topic, so please let me know if it is now in the right place.

You have done a lovely job with this painting - engaging softness and flowing energy.

(Your painting looks a little dark on my monitor - would you like me to brighten it up a bit? Hard to know , not seeing the original.)

Dianne Gardner 03-21-2007 07:52 PM

Hi Chris, It was you that emailed me! Sorry. Thank you. Yes you can brighten it up. My monitor displays things much lighter than most I think. Do what looks good for you! Thanks for the reply and the kind comments.

Diane,

I just applied the levels function in Photoshop without any other adjustments - does this look ok to you?

Dianne Gardner 03-22-2007 02:11 AM

Its fine Chris thanks.

Diane,
this is lovely.
Nice composition, and the colors really add a dimension to your subject.
Nice job!

Hello Dianne,
I love how you managed to paint her sweet thoughts! Beautiful, masterly!

Dianne Gardner 03-27-2007 08:56 PM

Thank you very much Gerthe!

Michele Rushworth 03-28-2007 10:55 AM

Nice job, Dianne. I know you live in the Seattle area. Where was this open studio session?

Dianne Gardner 03-28-2007 11:25 AM

Thank you Michele. I host an open studio at my home at least once a month if not twice. I live in the Olalla area on the Kitsap Peninsula-just a short distance from the Southworth Ferry if you come by boat. You are certainly welcome to join us. There is another open studio session every Tuesday in Gig Harbor hosted by Donna Trent, a well known local artist. You are welcome to come to that one also if you are interested. Let me know, I'll set you up!

Thanks, Dianne, but it would take me most of the day to get over there. I live in the foothills of the Cascades.

Garth Herrick 04-07-2007 10:52 AM

Dianne,

This is rather nice! I love the painterly quality, and the quality you reveal of your subject. Bravo!

Dianne, I love this! The depth in the shadows is wonderful--not too dark, just transparent and full of suggestion. Because of that, and the lovely glow in the light areas, there's a strong illusion of atmosphere and spatial depth in this work.

The other thing I love is the way you describe the model. She comes alive for me. I am planning out a portrait of someone with a blonde braid, and seeing this one reminds me of how much a braid can say. Hers lies beside her elfin face in such a playful way.

Where do you find all these costumes? They are great.

Dianne Gardner 04-08-2007 08:45 PM

Thank you Alex!

Just a followup on this painting. It just won a blue ribbon at a regional show here in Washington. The judging was done by a well known artist. Thank you all for your encouragement.

Chris Saper 05-21-2007 10:31 AM

Congratulations!

Garth Herrick 05-21-2007 10:39 AM

Congratulations Dianne!

Alexandra Tyng 05-25-2007 07:59 AM

Wow, that's great, Dianne! Congratulations!

Grethe Angen 05-25-2007 04:58 PM

Many congratulations, Dianne!
