Congratulations, Kim, on this terrific step in your career! Here's a photo of the cover (when the issue hits the newstands here I'll try to get a better photo uploaded).

Nice goin' Kim.
Congratulations, and best wishes. Come back, Kim, come back ... |
Kim, this is absolutely wonderful! Congratulations! I'm going to pick up a copy.
|
Linda, Mike & Alex - thank you ! :)
Linda & Alex, when you get yours you will see that the cover and the print of 'Pensive' with the article are pretty orange-pink in color - plus high in contrast compared to the original paintings. I guess that is the way of print sometimes. They reversed 'Allison' also. This copy that Linda nabbed is one I tweaked just a bit to look more like the painting... :o Alex, I got your email, thank you. I did try to reply, but it bounced it back to me for some reason. I only have a copy of the magazine because for some reason it was on bookshelves last week in MD and my mother sent me one - it still isnt out down here yet. |
Kimberly, Fabulous! Big Congratulations!!
David |
Kim, a BIG congratulations for the exposure and a job well done!
|
Wow and double wow -- congratulations!!
By the way, how did this all come about? Did they track you down or did you send in submissions? |
Thanks David, Mischa and Michele!
Michele, the editor of the magazine called me out of the blue and said she had seen my work at Meyer's Gallery in Scottsdale. I had just signed with them maybe a month earlier. :) |
Congratulations, Kim,
Way to go girl    |
Thanks Allan!
|
Bravo Kim!
One thing brings another one, what will be next?... |
Thank you Marina. :D
hmmm..what's next? I wish I knew! |
Congratulations Kim! It was really fun to get the mail yesterday and see "you" on the cover.

Great news Kim, congratulations!
I don't subscribe to Southwest Art, but I remember it being full of Western themed figurative or animal art . What other works of yours are being featured? |
Congratulations, Kim! I hope this leads to some cool commissions or buyers for your current work.

Thank you ladies. :)
Enzie, the magazine has really moved more main-stream over the years. It still does the western art, but it is a lot less that than figurative and other types. When the editor called me she kinda laughed about it...saying that it wasnt just western anymore. And it is suprisingly available all over the place. One artist told me he picks up copies of it in Australia. It is also a magazine geared towards galleries and collectors. It isn't an art 'instruction' magazine. My article is short, Im one of 6 figurative artists they highlighted. I havent been able to get a good scan of the page so far. The other piece they showed is 'Pensive'...I'll attach the painting. |
Kim, I picked up a copy in Border's and I felt like confiding to the cashier, "I know this artist!" Fortunately my daughter was with me and I didn't want to embarrass her. It's very impressive, and the group of featured artists includes a lot of women, which is nice for a change. What do you think of the reproduction of Pensive? I think it's very high quality, though I can't tell about the color, having never seen the original.

Congratulations Kim,
I haven't seen the magazine, but I will keep my peepers open for it. Well deserved. Janel |
Thanks Janel! :D
Alex, your better than I am - I went into B&N today and bought 4 copies and told the cashier 'that's MY painting.' He was very kind and gushed over me a bit when he probably wanted to just say 'That'll be $35.' Well, I would never complain, but since you asked... Pensive is orange in the magazine, but not the painting. Really, really orange. It's clarity is good though. While Allison is reversed, pretty orange and pink also, and the contrast was way uped, so it's too dark, blurry and none of the delicate passages show. And her face is reversed, which I assume they did on purpose. I had considered asking about getting a color proof - but hesitated as I didnt know if this was commonly done or whether they even had time, whether I would be a pain...etc. I dont know if it is nature of magazine printing, or if my digital files look that way to their computers. But I glanced thru a new portrait magazine on the racks and noticed the same kind of thing - lots of high contrast. I saw a couple of paintings I am familiar with and they were not wonderful representations of the work. So, I was a bit shocked when I saw the magazine. But...what can you do? Im so honored they put my painting on there...and hell - I got the cover - no need to whine. ;) |
Kim, the paintings you did are beautiful. I guess I need to go to Borders and pick up a copy. This exposure surely will lead to many good things for you.
|
Huge congratulations Kim! :sunnysmil

Kim,
I happen to pick-up the magazine yesterday evening and am so happy for you, it is well-deserved. And it's been awhile since I've posted on our forum as I've moved across country, living back in Brooklyn now. So it gives me great pleasure to post with a congratulations to one of our members. Continued success to you Kim. Fondly, Magdalena |

Wow Kim! This is just awesome. You do such creative and beautiful work. Well deserved! It was great meeting you last year during William Whitaker`s workshop in Phoenix. With your talent, drive, and personality, these successes will just keep on coming!

Andrea, thank you!
It was great meeting you at the workshop as well. You should really share some of your work and not be such a stranger. :) |
