Young Man

Well, here is the finished painting of a young man I know. He has a brother that I will be doing as soon as he's back from South Africa.

A heartfelt thank you to all who made suggestions and pushed me farther. It was well worth the extra work. Allan, Michele, Patricia, Terri, Chris, Kim, wow you guys are great!

For some reason the reds are too intense and I can't adjust them so try to see this thru filtered eyes.

This was a fun painting!

Cool picture, Jean!

Thank you Julie, Kim and Allan. I'm going to try and get a better photo up tomorrow, I finally complained enough to get Photoshop Elements reinstalled on our computer. We had a big crash a while back, so now we have all new guts, It's bigger and faster but still missing half of our old programs.

Allan, I guess it's play time!

Better photos! There is a little glare but the color is much more realistic and he doesn't have red blobs on his forehead anymore. I took the earlier photos outside and they really turned out bad.

Thank you Heidi and Garth, two artists I admire greatly. Your appreciation has made my day.

Earlier, I forgot to thank Linda Brandon for her suggestions. So, thank you Linda!

Very Nice!

Thank you Mary. :sunnysmil

I've been playing around with different techniques and styles now for a couple of years. My last painting "The Rose" was my first stab at a highly refined painting and I was so glad when it was done! This one is looser, with palette knife in the background and many different types of brushes to make the textures. I like this new medium very much, but it stnks so I'm on to something else. How does Maroger smell?

I have watched this one develop and was so anxious to see the final result and for good reason. It's just incredible! It's so "alive." I also love the background. Really well done from top to bottom.

Lisa, thank you so much! After seeing your own excellent work, I feel pretty good getting a compliment from you. Welcome to the board, you'll find some wonderful teachers here. When I joined, the only thing I had going for me was an innate ability to draw. So I attribute the quality of this painting to all the teachers here.

Hi Jean,

I keep coming back to look at this painting, I think it's so fresh and engaging. You know, I was recently at a big museum and I tried to pay attention to which paintings "grabbed" people and which ones didn't. This one qualifies as a real "grabber". I love it.

Oh - "Eau de Maroger" is woodsy with soft floral notes. Just kidding. It's strong and people will say "you've been painting!" when they walk in the door. I happen to really like it and I think it helps get me going, just as the smell of fresh coffee gets me going in the morning. Painting is a process and a way of reacting to your world as much as it is a final product. Think of it as a verb and a noun.

Hi Lnda,

Thank you so much! A compliment from you means a lot to me. We had a houseful of people today, among them two fourteen year old girls. Believe me, his portrait grabbed them in a big way! My brother thought he was dark and mysterious, everyone else got it. My brother is kind of weird.

Thanks for the input on the Maroger's, now I'll be prepared for the aroma. ;)

This came out fantastic. I remember seeing the progress and it was impressive then, but now...

Awesome!!

Jean Kelly 03-28-2005 03:21 PM

Hi Jimmie,

Thank you, thank you! You are the "master of sensual women", so I've decided to be the "master of sensuous men". Now to find some more. I'm surrounded by men and boys, sons, grandsons, etc. Neighbors have boys, I have to travel to find women!

Thank you David, I really appreciate your compliment. You know that I love your work. :sunnysmil
