Hello from Washington!

I'm new here and have been looking at all the beautiful work here. I am so impressed and awe struck. I hope that someday my artwork will reach the height of excellence that is the standard here. I am hoping just rubbing shoulders with you all will give me the incentive to obtain new heights. I am certain that I can learn from each of you.
Thank you for allowing me into this website. |
Hello Dianne,
Welcome from another "Puget Sounder"! I live right across the water from you in West Seattle. And yes, SOG forums are a great place to pull up and dock to. :) I am brand new to painting portraits and this place has literally taught me how to do it correctly incorporating several different techniques. Each moderator has such beautiful teaching skills and ways that will suit any style. Enjoy! ~Geary |
Thank you Geary. What a pleasure meeting someone from home! I think its going to take me a little while to figure out how this site works and just where the instructions are but I'm sure I'll get used to it. In the meantime, its nice to meet you and thank you for the warm welcome.

Welcome to the Forum Dianne. You will enjoy it for sure!

I like your painting.

Hello Dianne, I'm new too and am learning so much from this forum. It's truly inspiring.
|
Thank you for all the warm welcomes!

Hey Diane! Glad to see you here too. I won't feel so alone being new though I suspect we have both been looking around for a while.

Hi Lisa,
I think you are right about posting here. I am so very humbled by the excellence of work. I feel like a beginner and I've been painting for 25 years or more. I hope to learn much much more through this site. I am just wondering if impressionism is not acceptable as a portrait style though. It would be nice to know before I start posting paintings. I'm glad there is someone I know here Lisa! Welcome. Dianne |
Welcome, Dianne! I lived on Lummi Island off the coast of Bellingham many years ago, and I love that part of the country.
Your painting is very fresh and appealing. Is the medium watercolor? While many of the artists who frequent this forum subscribe to a more realistic approach, impressionism is certainly well-represented here and is definitely acceptable. Happy posting! |
Welcome Dianne!
My son lived in Port Angeles and I visited your neck of the woods several times. What a beautiful part of the country you live in. My suggestion to you, as a new member of the forum: do not hesitate to post for critiques. All the professionals here are great teachers and very generous and very kind. And spend as much time as you can going back into older posts as there is a huge wealth of knowledge to be gleaned. This is a wonderful place to come to to learn and to grow. I like your painting and look forward to seeing more of your work. |

Hello, Patricia and Leslie.
Thank you for writing. Thank you for the warm welcome. I love Washington. I spent many years in AZ and it was hard to adjust to the continual wetness, although I remember praying for rain a lot in AZ! Guess you have to watch what you wish for. It's so beautiful here though. I only paint in oils. I've been working on another one more recently of my daughter. I'll post the head shot as I'm not finished with the whole thing yet. Not sure what other forums to post my work to. |
Welcome DIANNE to the Forum,
Was always astonished by the beauty of Seattle area and the easygoing ambiance of it! I see the same thing in your painting! Sergio |
Thank you Sergio
I appreciate the kind comments!

Welcome Diane,
I love your soft, loose, painterly style. |
Dianne,
I've been admiring the portrait of your daughter. It's beautifully painted and her expression and pose have so much feeling and individuality. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your portraits. Alex |
Thank you Sharon and Alex. Your comments are indeed encouraging.
