Just for the fun of it!

Thought I'd post a painting I did a couple of months ago. I found it next to my easel and remembered how fun it was to paint. The model is my always accessible self and it was painted in multiple indoor lights and light from a north window.

I had a palette with left over acrylics and took the opportunity to practice on painting without a high degree of finish. To furthermore get away from perfectionism I used my left hand instead of my right and a large brush. The colors are obviously exaggerated and not always of the right value. But I think it was good for practice and inspiration because as mentioned, it was soooo much fun to do!!!

Very cool Hanna! I love it. It brings to mind some of Harley Brown's paintings, although yours is more electric. It looks like you're wearing a cow collar though, don't know if that's what you had in mind? It does look very fun to paint.

Thank you Holly!
Cow collar, ha ha ha. Maybe not too far fetched since I in my early youth had a ring between my nostrils, I should have added that! No, seriously it is a brown scarf with a loose knot in the bottom of the painting.

What an honor to be mentioned in relation to Harley Brown, though this painting is faaaar from his standard of excellence. I've actually done a study of his pastel "Ilian" where he uses vibrant colors to prove that the thing is to have the right values. It was also a lot of fun!

Hanna,

One of the tricks to learning how to paint or anything is not to take oneself too seriously.

I love it for its freshness.

Hanna Larsson 01-18-2005 10:23 AM

Thank you Sharon! And I think you are absolutely right. If you were to take the fun out of painting, or any other passion you might have, why even bother doing it?

I really like this one a lot. Great energy.

BTW,I have a great dermatologist I can recommend for the next time you come to NY.

Hanna Larsson 01-18-2005 12:31 PM

Thank you Marvin, that would be great! Luckily I'm a skillful makeup artist...? No seriously, thank you, I'm glad you liked it.

Hej Hanna vad roligt att se dig h

I'm impressed that you accomplished such an accurate drawing with your left hand.

The paint is juicy and wonderful. I think I'll try this! (Don't know about using my left hand, though...)

WOW Hanna!

This is wonderful! I love it. I think one can only perceive and record this kind of spontaneous color from life. One would never discern these colors accurately and sensibly from a photograph. Well done!

Tack Marianne! Kul att se lite svenska h

I also like this, Hanna, it's so fresh and loose. I also wanted to add that the colors would sell very well down here in our Arizona art galleries. :)

Golly, Hanna, Thanks! What a small world (I thought you only got to NYC). The only time I was in your neck of the woods was twenty one years ago (on an art school traveling scholarship). I wouldn't mind seeing your self portrait in person some day. It's paradigm shifting good!

Hanna,

My apologies for responding so late- I really have enjoyed seeing this piece!

Harley Brown has always said, "You can get away with any color, so long as the value is right." You bring true credence to his voice.
