New elegant paints for a sneak preview.
Cennini forum is owned by Rob Howard who is an accomplished artist/portrait painter/illustrator/teacher/ MANUFACTURER.
Ozog, a favorite of many in the forum, stopped making his paints and a void opened up. Encouraged by his band of art geeks, he is making a set of good old Politically Incorrect leaded paints that are going to be to die for. Here is his announcement on the forum with pictures of his first few colors. I have invested in the process and am very glad to have people explore the products and see what they think for themselves. Rob is a very humble guy (not) but I have found his art advice to be amazing in nearly every instance. Take a look. |
What a timely post! I just ordered the irgazine red over the weekend, I'll let you know when it arrives!

Waaa! Can I borrow some?
I have a $110 credit waiting and want too much so I am frozen deciding. I feel very proud to have participated. When we started talking him into it, the gang told him to do it and he said it was all fine and dandy, but finaces were not limitless, so we invested. $100 matured and in 60 days, that covered the expense of buying machinery and R&D, if we let it sit, we got to buy 10% more stuff! Those who did $1000 got $100 more, and I am just sitting like a Christmas present unable to make up my mind. It is the ruby I await. Such an amazing color. Crisp and truly red, not too cool, not too warm. I saw them mulling pigment when I was there and I have lusted for 9 months over it. One more plug for Ugly Dog. The most amazing soap on earth. Still am thrilled every time I clean a brush. |
Last Friday and Saturday I began using the Studio Products flake white ground in black oil. I

Hi Debra,
I just posted a painting that used up a ton of Irgazine Ruby, mostly mixed with Yellow Ochre and Naples Yellow Deep to warm it up a bit: http://forum.portraitartist.com/showthread.php?t=4695 It's an Ozog tube that I bought last year and it's a terrific color. I'm getting my order into Rob pronto, thanks so much for letting me know about his new paints. |

I heard stories of people calling Doak for his Irg ruby and he refuses to sell it because "they didn't really need it." That really makes me WANT it. Maybe that's the point? ;) |
Pretty sure it was ruby.

Iris, a portrait participant, brought three jars that victor mixed into tubes for her - ruby, orange and red - but it was ruby that was on Rob's list that blew my socks of. I remember it as being rosey but warm. We substituted alizarin and mixed the dynamite ivory black and white with it for the caput mortuum purple I have become addicted to. There was a clarity and balance I was captivated by.
This is the mix of the first day, I am pretty sure it was ruby. |

But - I think it looks like the swatch that's called Irg. Red. The Ruby (on the recent swatches posted) looks more purple. I need to call Rob and ask him which I should get! |
Deb- I just called Rob and got my answer - it is the RUBY that I need. I guess that Ruby that Victor made is the same color,
Can't WAIT. |
I spent both of my certificates and got about 9 tubes of this amazing paint and the thick lead white.
I am going to buy some of the other rarer colors he is offering - Cads, Vermillion (when available), next. |
