It is a fine portrait and I especially like the way you changed the hair compared to the reference. The edges are so bold and soft. I would suggest that you soften the edges of the forehead and darken the value a little bit because of the direction of the light. More toward the top of the forehead. Maybe also soften the transition of the shadow of the nose at the tip of the nose and under the eye. If you squint at the reference you see that there is no such sharp edges. Allan |

Allan, I am still learning about softening edges.Thanks for your tips on what to look at. It is a continual learning process, doing portraiture, isn't it? I've learned something about eye structure from this piece, as well as being reminded about looking, measuring, checking. I never feel I see everything there is to see. Maybe I should have put this in the " Works in Process" section..... because I will be working on it more. |
